The pipe and the socket should be clean and dry. Dust oil, water grease etc should be wiped out with dry cloth and cleaner from the surfaced to be coated with solvent cement. Stir solvent cement thoroughly apply a think coat of solvent cement using a flat clean brush evenly in the inside of the socket mouth for full length of insertion and then on outside of the pipe end. Insert the pipe within one minute after application of solvent cement into the socket hold the joint for few seconds and ensure that the pipe does not come out of the fitting. Wipe off extra solvent cement let it dry the joint should be allowed to set undisturbed. it should be pressure tested only after 24 hours.
Valves are essentials for the safe functioning of the line and pumpsets. these include Air Valves, Non-return Valves, Pressure Relief Valves, Sluice Valves etc. Non-return valve is fitted immediately after the pump. this ensures safely from water returning with high velocity due to unforeseen stoppage of pump or power failure. Sluice valve is then fitted to control the flow of water. Air valve allows trapped air to escape from the pipes line and ensures steady flow of water. At all high points in the pipes line air valves should be incorporated particularly when the line has ups and downs.
Trench should be adequate width and depth. Depth should be such that it provides clean cushion of 70 cm to 100 cm width should be equal to dia plus 300mm. After excavation, the trenches should be inspected and sharp objects like, nails or tins, stones should be removed. if the bottom is rocky, it should be covered with soft soil or sand to a depth of 10cm, the pipes with one duly fitted with the socket should laid in the trench then the pipes should be jointed by solvent cement jointing process.
